To whom it may concern,

I am writing to you with regards to the £5 million funding pot that has been given to Milton Keynes Council from the government, to help support local businesses within Milton Keynes.

We strongly believe that more support should be given to the arts and culture sector in Milton Keynes, more specifically to Unit Nine based in Old Wolverton, who are a huge asset to the community, not just as a music venue but as an education hub too. Unit Nine have created music courses for NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) students, helping to develop vital life skills, self confidence & also working on self care / mental health & wellbeing. Unit Nine also work alongside Thames Valley Police using music as diversion programme for young gang members. This is all on top of the diverse music events that attract a multicultural audience week in week out, that brings in thousands of people to Milton Keynes that help prop up the local economy.

Unit Nine was unsuccessful in a recent bid for the Cultural Relief Fund which was distributed by the Arts Council.  Having only been able to function as a venue twice since March (the start of this pandemic) the venue has been left in real danger of closure, without any support.

We are kindly asking if you would please support Unit Nine (& other struggling venues such as MK11), by recommending to Milton Keynes Council that some of the funding goes towards helping them to remain in business and be able to carry on their excellent work within our community.  Unit Nine has helped so many people, from young teenagers that have lost their way (on one of the specifically designed music courses) to the joy it provides at one of their (many) live music events!

Please help to save the venue.

Kind Regards
